The Great Adventure Lab is an after-school science enrichment program. We’ve taught thousands of kids how to write their first robotics or video game programs (or both!).

We also teach science, engineering, electronics ... and more!  We do it all with SMALL class sizes with an adult to student ratio of 6:1 for most classes. (5:1 for more advanced classes, 7:1 for non-robotics classes).

We make science, technology, engineering, and mathematics irresistibly FUN for the next generation.

You can find full descriptions, reviews and photos of all our classes and birthday parties at

Here are mini-descriptions of our Winter 2015 offerings at Bethesda ES. Please follow links for complete details, including photos!  Room numbers TBD. Instructor will send welcome email several days before class.

Students may not repeat this class. Students must be in specified grade range.

Areas of Exploration: Programming, Robotics, Logic.

Course Structure and Fees: 2 instructors. Eight 90-min. meetings, once per week. $225 per student. Min. 9 / max. 10 students.

Mindstorms students love building robots that can navigate obstacle courses and respond to a number of sensors, including motion, touch, and ultrasonic sensors. We use the LEGO® Mindstorms base kit to master programming basic movements and then progress to more difficult challenges. We build robots that can navigate mazes, shoot ping pong balls, and more!

Robo Challenge Contraptions

Thu 3:10-4:10pm Jan 15, 22, 29, Feb 5, 12, 19, 26, Mar 5

GRADES 3–5 (3rd grade prerequisite: LEGO® Robotics)

Students may not repeat this class. Students must be in specified grade range.

Areas of Exploration: Robotics, Programming, Logic.

Course Structure and Fees: 1 instructor, 1 aide. Seven 60-min. meetings, once per week. $145 per student.  Min. 11 / max. 12 students.

Robo Challenge Contraptions is ideal for students who want more of a challenge than the LEGO® Robotics class offers. No previous robotics experience is required for 4-5th graders. Instead of working with step-by-step building directions and sample programs, we start each class with a programming challenge set by our instructors. We then use LEGO® robotics kits to design bots to go with our programs. Some of the robots we build include a venus fly trap, a marble counter and a marble shooting soccer game!

Robo Challenge Contraptions and Machines can be taken in any order.
